05/10/26 – Entry Two

It’s Monday and the start of a new week!
I often hear a lot of people talk about Sunday Scaries and the fear of Mondays approaching. I find I actually like Mondays. The start of a new week provides a sense of possibilities and potentials. The idea that I have a full week ahead of me to plan and achieve so many activities.
Having said that, I am a creature of habit and I do like my routines. Monday to Friday is dedicated to work during the day, online university in the evenings, maybe some arts and crafts, and a short midweek evening hike. It’s more the weekends that I see the potential, weather it’s visiting a museum, going to the park or painting a new landscape; for me weekends are the time to really focus on my hobbies and the things I enjoy. It’s almost like a reward for all the work that has been put into the week days.
So, although Mondays mark the end of those days of enjoyment and creativity, I still feel it is a moment to hit the reset button and the opportunity to earn all of those moments again.
It’s actually when I lose that sense of routine that things may start to unravel. I am absolutely guilty of being so much less productive when I take annual lave or change my sleep routine or go on holiday. For me the routine is what provides the energy and the motivation, sort of like following a map on one of my hikes. That is why I like to list 5 things that went well the week before and 5 things I am looking forward to in the week ahead, each Monday to continue to motivate me.
Now, I appreciate for some people structure and routine may not work for them and that they enjoy the freedom of going with the flow. The priority is always to find the balance and harmony that works for you. Finding your moment that makes the start of the week feel a little less intimidating and embracing the possibilities of the week ahead.
So, maybe next time Mondays fill you with dread, try writing 5 things that went well for you last week and 5 things you look forward to this week, and see how you feel. It may just bring a little more peace and tranquillity to the start of your week.
